Critical Analysis of related content with mixed languages ( urdu and english) on the front and back page headlines and sub-headings of the daily Jang of July, August, September 1961 and 2011

Abstract

he purpose of this research is to test hypothesis whether there is any rise seen in usage of English words in an Urdu newspaper daily "Jang" during the last fifty years. It can be observed in daily life that there is been an enormous rise in adoption of English words in Urdu language. This is an alarming situation that English words are replacing common Urdu words at large. Although distortion in living languages is very common around the world but civilized nations safeguard their languages with deep concern. Unfortunately Urdu language is not receiving such attention to being protected. The role of mass media is very dull in the progression of language at international level. That is why widely published Urdu "Jang" which imitated its publication before the establishment of has been selected as a sample. This Research is based on qualitative and quantitative analysis by the experts from language and mass media. It analyze and determine how much English words were used in the headlines and sub headlines appeared in first and last pages of Urdu newspaper Daily Jang published in July, August and September Consecutive during 1961 and 2011. The findings based on quantitative analysis of this research authenticate the hypothesis. The result of qualitative analysis logically disapproves the unnecessary mixing of English words in Urdu language as it mass national ideology and distort national identity
